Chapter Eighteen
Renting Various Equipment

If you are located in a college town you will find that the women students have frequent occasion to use a sewing machine, a piano, or other equipment not provided by the dormitory or rooming houses.

In fact, in these days of the radio, victrola, and ubiquitous dress shop it is a rare thing to find such household items as pianos and sewing machines in any of the rooming houses.

An opportunity, therefore, is present for the stay-at-home woman to make money with little effort and inconvenience if she owns a sewing machine, a piano, or both, and is willing to rent their use for a small sum at an hourly rate.

A notice on the dormitory bulletin board, or at the Y.W.C.A. at a nurses' home, or any woman's hotel will bring many anxious customers.

It would even pay to place a small classified "ad" in your local or college newspaper.

Other items which people, not necessarily students, rent frequently are vacuum cleaners, victrola records, typewriters, bicycles, invalid chairs, portable radios and victrolas.

Note: To account for inflation, multiply prices by 8 to 10.
