Chapter Fifteen

CONCLUSION—594-595
Ideas are worthless unless you put them to work. Success lies in DOING! And readers must admit this veritable encyclopedia of ideas has at least ONE idea, ONE plan, ONE business, ONE home enterprise, in fact ONE made-to-order business that can be worked profitably. Yes, no one knows better than you what your desires are, what you like to do, what preparation, education and experience you have had. The variety of plans found in this book really makes it possible for the average American to find at least one thing here that he can do and do well!

Those of you who seek independence, security and freedom from financial worry will find these stories to be the answer to a definite goal. Here's a chance to vision something that can be accomplished by you. Here are ideas that give the reader a definite mental picture of the ultimate end and aim of a business of his or her choice.

Whatever your motives are for seeking an independent business of your own, always remember you must be willing to pay a price for it — hard work! If the money-making idea is foremost in your mind, never let it lead you astray from the fact that it can only be achieved by your willingness to put your all into the particular business you have in mind.

You should have the desire to achieve. When achievement comes before money, money automatically runs hand in hand with achievement! Woe to the person who looks at achievement in dollars and cents. The goal to success becomes clouded. The person is oblivious to elements that crush the venture from the start because money and not well-planned action is foremost in the person's mind.

There shall be many among you who will be quite unwilling to risk part of your savings to start into business. Bear in mind two important things: 1. Many men and women fail every year whether they go into business or not. The causes are many. Illness, unemployment, unwise spending, etc. 2. Our country is the richest country in the world because millions of people weren't afraid to take a chance.

The scope of this book is so wide, so varied that it is almost humanly impossible for anyone to fail. Quite impossible because there are business ideas to suit all. Naturally, it is unwise for the mechanic to choose a business plan that isn't in his line of work. A mechanic could tackle a dozen or more of the business plans herein, but if they are too far removed from his natural ability it would be senseless to work a plan he isn't suited for. Of course there are people who would like to enter an entirely new field. It is advisable to study the new field, prepare yourself well. Study and preparation would even fit a mechanic into an alien business.

When you enter a business, watch out for all the legal angles connected with it. There might be a local, state or federal law that may have direct bearing on your business. Most local businesses are subject to various licenses. A mail order business does not need any license. If you use a "company" name, you must record it in your local county court house.

If the business you choose will be a local one, prepare for the watchword — SERVICE! Render a needed and useful service and your business will grow steadily. Be friendly to your customer, but make your "friendliness" genuine. Don't be impatient with your customer. Offer him helpful advice. A sale depends on your affability. And above all — know your merchandise! Show your customer you have a thorough knowledge of the thing he contemplates buying. Make it your business to remember your customer's names. People love to be remembered. When a sale is NOT made, you should be just as friendly and cheerful as if the sale were actually made. People admire a good loser. They'll be back to deal with a sporting gentleman.

No matter how small a venture may be it takes some capital to start. There are many of them, however, that can be started on the proverbial "shoestring". Money should be put away for an undertaking. Yet money can be borrowed when a person is reasonably sure he has well-laid plans for a successful business. Many large and small businesses have gained their present sound financial status on borrowed capital. Insufficient capital and incompetence cause more businesses to fold up than any other reason or reasons one can think of.

Finally, no book is an open door to success in money-making. Any reader who thinks a book can work a miracle like this is only kidding himself. This book merely points the way. It shows how others did it—successfully! All this book does is to give you a little "shove" in the RIGHT DIRECTION! And that's about all most of us humans need, a little prodding, a thought generated, an IDEA that can be carried forward to an amazing financial success.

Federal and State Government booklets can supply you with the essential facts. The many trade magazines can offer invaluable assistance. The public library can advise you as to the types of books to study. Start where this information leaves off.
